Moody Gardens

Over eight holiday attractions take place at Moody Gardens. The two most popular ones are the Festival of Lights and Iceland: Christmas around the world.

The Festival of Lights is a traditional event that brings together friends and families. Moody Gardens is set up with more than a million lights creating a beautiful illusion onto Galveston Bay. Bring your friends and family and take a leisurely stroll through the twinkling lights.

Iceland: Christmas around the world is without a doubt the highlight of the holiday season. Millions of pounds of ice were carved by professionals who create an unforgettable scene of Christmas all over the world.

You will have a taste of other cultures as you travel around the world. From Russia to Egypt and China, it will be a mind-blowing trip that you will relish. On the Giant Ice Slide, you will find yourself atop the stately Eiffel Tower only to glide your way off to see the likes of distant places like Australia, Holland, and Rio, not to mention Santa Claus. At temperatures of just 9 degrees, it’s chilly over here, so you better arm yourself with gloves and hats. Fortunately, you will also be provided with a parka to beat the cold.

Strand Historic District

Galveston’s historic downtown district will host Downtown Lasers & Lights featuring new laser shows, a magical display of lights and other holiday-themed attractions in Saengerfest Park. Highlights at Saengerfest Park include a 30 foot tall Christmas tree and a giant snow globe for visitors to enjoy on weekends. You don’t want to leave your camera behind so you can take great shots that you will cherish for years to come. In addition, lights will be hung on The Strand from 20th to 25th streets and also along 23rd and Postoffice streets.

New this year is a four-hour holiday laser light show synchronized to music. The light show will be projected on the American National Insurance Company Building from 6 to 10 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Dec. 22.

Take a leisurely stroll throughout the Strand area and tackle some of your holiday shopping at the district’s many gift shops, boutiques, art galleries and antique shops set among beautiful Victorian architecture.

Grand Opera House
